It's an icon that has a car driving. There is a box where you can type in an address and press enter and it builds a list for you. The addresses are accepted real easily. You type street, city, state, zip. Just type it in and pic from the options it gives you. After using this product and getting used to it and having a fast typing speed and knowing how to copy and paste addresses into the bar , I can build a route of 40 locations in just a couple minutes if I already have them on a list.
Other times, it takes several hours - if I'm looking up information, figuring out what I'm doing, etc. Then, after you are done building your route, you press "optimize stops" and it tells you how to go to all those places in the quickest amount of time. Sometimes you might need to go to 40 places and you want to go to them in the quickest amount of time, but you might also have appointments set up at 2 or 3 of the places at a certain time.
It was a feature where you can set the route to make it where you will be at those places at the time you specify. You can tell it what time, and you can tell it about how long you will be at each place. So - when you can't drive them completely in order - when you need to go - maybe to office depot to buy paper before you go into the office to print something and then before you go to this place where you are taking this thing that you printed - you can set all that stuff up where it will work that out for you.
Another thing I have used it for is to build a route called family. I have on there the names of people I love and where they live. It helps me to keep track of where people live so I can visit family and close friends more often because sometimes I may live in the same city as someone I love for a couple years and not even know it. So I decided to put the addresses in that I have in my address book onto a "route".
I have put things like "the price is right" and the steinweigh piano factory into the route as well as fun things to go after that are located around New York.
For anyone in outside sales, I think it's a great product and can increase sales. Maybe mention it to them in passing, but I wouldn't even mention it to them. It just red flags you as doing something different than what they are telling you to do. Build your routes when you can when your manager isn't looking and enjoy doing better than your peers. I'd keep it as a secret to share with those people you like and behind the current but not a tool that's going to cost you your job. For some managers that aren't crazy about wanting things done a certain way - it might be a good product to e-mail over to them - after you have gotten used to it and know it well and know how to approach that subject.
I, typically, do sales my way and sale more than anyone in the office - but have a hard time staying on the system - so for my personality, I have not found it productive to mention it to the boss.
